April 26, 2023 - OCEAN SPRINGS, MS - The City of Ocean Springs officially broke ground on the highly anticipated multi-million dollar development located at 1515 Government Street. The development, designed by MP Design Group, includes a food hall, condominiums, 8,000 square feet of retail and a robust 250 space parking garage that will benefit all of downtown Ocean Springs.
"The parking garage is a grant assisted project that will contribute to the aid of parking congestion issues which helps all businesses and visitors of Downtown Ocean Springs" states Brad Jones, Principal Architect for MP Design Group.
Ocean Springs Mayor Kenny Holloway also commented on the difficulties finding a place to park in the downtown area and the benefits of the new garage, “Part of it will be dedicated to the hotel and the rest of it will be open to the public. It’s a good location for the hotel and restaurants and bars and stuff downtown,” Holloway said.
The hotel will feature 32 rooms with amenities said to include "all the bells and whistles." The hotel is designed by Dale Architects, with the entire project being built by Orocon Construction.
Developers Jim Hardin and John Oropesa are excited for the opportunities the project will bring to Downtown Ocean Springs. “In 2018, John and I were fortunate enough to be high-bidders on the property. What we’re doing out here today meets that vision. With the help of Mississippi Development Authority and the Gulf Coast Restoration Fund, we were able to qualify for two grants.”
